Just wondering if there's a way of dynamically re-sizing images linked-to via URL.

I've tried a few variations but can't find aything that seems to reduce the size of the original image.

Looks like it might be possible to put a limit in the code for the forum, https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... 0&t=577794
so all images resize, but I can't find anything that does it 'on the fly', so's to speak.

At least we got the picture - you could probably drop the code underneath it. If you've got size problems(ahem!) you could try re-sizing the picture to (say) 600 x 400 pixels and saving it with a new name to preserve the original.

Hi Brian
I was just wondering if the BB Code for resizing URL based images worked on this forum. I'm finding that if the original online image is quite big then linking to it with the IMG tag tends to distort the page. Pity there isn't a way of dynamically resizing the online image other than downloading, resizing and then uploading.

You need to re-size the image on your own PC or whatever using an image manipulation program (I use Photoshop) which also has a "Save for Web" option.

Hi all.
I do everything on my (this) Asus 7 inch tablet.
1. Take original photos with this tablet.
2. Resize photo to 640 pixels wide using photo editor downloaded free from the Android Play store.
3. Save resized photo in new folder on this tablet.
4. Add a link to each photo as needed in my blog to this forum by clicking "Attach File" below this text box. Then "Choose File" then "Upload File.".

Example.

I have no problem with resizing attached images, I was checking to see if there was a way of dynamically resizing images which are already uploaded to another website when using the IMG tag.

On another forum which I frequent, you can add a width parameter inside the first set of square brackets to specify the size the image will be displayed -

eg

Otherwise, as in this thread, either the image disappears off the page or the text on the page shrinks to an unreadable size.

Would be handy to be able to resize images which are already online rather than having to dowload, edit and then upload them again as attachments.

Hi Rik,

It is bad practice to resize images the way you describe because browsers still have to load the full size image and then process it to the desired dimensions resulting in slower load times, using more bandwidth and can lead to displaying a poorer quality image than the original.

You can sign up for free photo sharing sites like Photobucket where you can either resize the image first on your computer or do it on the site and then share your images across all the forums you use via links or code.
