I think its just the thrill of the chase, If you offered the exact same item to the bidder who was just beaten at the last minute at the price of his last bid he probably wouldn't be interested.
The other odd thing with reference to the IP Engineering carriage ebay offering is that the seller has some 24745 individual sales from the year 2000! that is about 4.5 items a day,every day!
They all seem to be odd and random bits of model railway and toy soldier stuff, I cant work out how you would be able to collect this amount of stuff and sell it and live off the proceeds as most of it is under £50 quid and its obviously not all profit.

Probably not a collector more a general toy/collectibles dealer with more than one user name depending on product area. Most likely does the toy fairs and saleroom auctions to pick up leads on used items. Plenty of (part)collections coming up as "legacy" and distressed sales out there. May well be keeping some selected choice items for themselves. That's the way some collectors operate to pay for their hobby.

I know a seller on Ebay who goes to car boot sales all over the place with his wife to find "bargains". Keeps to a fairly narrow field of "collectors" type items that they understand and makes a tidy living from it by exploiting the price differences between the two sales arenas . And keeps the bits they really want for themselves.

I have paid for my garden railway stuff by selling off a proportion of my static model car/slot car collection over the past 10 years. The numbers that you are quoting is not the total number of their trades but of feedbacks received from customers. Nor any totals attributable to other user names they may be trading under. Mine shows around 500, although I must have done nearer 800 individual sales. Still a little way to go so I might be able to get a few more bits for my line yet. Max.

The guy with Millie has an earl at £1,000. It is accucraft but not earlly enough for me. There is also a Merlin something for sale as well but no idea if that is a fair price.

The one with 822 and The Earl plates looks like a Caradoc to me, and the Merlin is a Mayflower I believe.

More ebay madness, someone's trying to sell Cambrian Models stuff at vastly inflated prices, £12 for two signal ladders when they are £1.90 each +p&p direct!

I have sympathy for eBay sellers uk_tetra2000 & sweet*n*crafty. It is clearly a family member trying to clear out the Back2Bay6 bereavement.

Whilst it really goes without saying that they have my utmost sympathy for their loss, have you seen the prices being asked for the Accucraft stuff on eBay, its priced up at more than you can buy it from Track Shack or even RRP, a bit strange, but I guess if people are willing to pay over the odds, that's their look out. Best of luck to them I guess.
