2023 Great Steam Train Race Australia
Four steam trains ‘race’ in parallel along the line from near Newcastle to Maitland, New South Wales, Australia. The locos are Garratt 6029, Pacific 3801, 5917 and Victorian R766 The location is the 4 tracks in the Hunter valley, 100 miles north of Sydney, two of which are the ‘normal’ general freig...

Re: Sandstone & Termite
I haven't made many videos lately, but I think this old hasn't been seen on this forum before.
It's the story of a very busy coal haulage day on the SaTR.

Re: Gearbox motor
I have used one on a 'static' model of one of my larger scale 'Rockets' and it is a strong and powerful motor which can be linked directly to a driving axle. Its only failing is that it needs large diameter wheels to allow adequate clearance above rail height. It could be adapted to drive chain or ...

That's an almost perfect GR. Some double track, plenty of stations and passing loops, lots of wiggly track and a sunny spot to sit and watch trains.

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
Thanks everyone for your encouragement.
I'm glad none of you commented on the geological anomaly in the last pic where there is a good size creek/culvert on one side of the track but no water on the other side in the backscene. Must be an underground river. (My daughter did pick it up!)

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
2D printing ......... Backscenes I wanted to cover the walls around the layout with some sort of ‘scenery’. There are 3x2” studs protruding from the walls every 2’ or so, and three wall angles of 90 degrees. So to ‘round’ the scenes I used 3mm MDF. I curved it by pouring boiling water on it and ben...

That's Rod, much appreciated.
I forgot to 'credit' Peter Binnie for the wheels, which I put on 3mm knitting needles as axles. Axle boxes are just styrene with cardboard springs.

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
I saw a picture of a tiny passenger carriage, which immediately said “I need one” for my indoor line. It was in this Topic Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd by gilfachphil. https://gardenrails.org/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=13912&start=120 so thanks to you and Plateway Models for the inspiration!...

.........The backdrop I feel needs altering a little bit I think, maybe make it a little taller The fields of wheat look good, will you be joining them so the white line disappears. Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
Fences should be just a few strands of barbed wire, but maybe a post and rail would be the ticket in front of a wheatfield. I'll try raising the scene up a bit and then add some bushes (not hedges !) Meanwhile, after much experimentation I have got a backscene for the pottery works at Pottsville. An...

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout
I think I have improved the waterfalls by just putting a few vertical scratches in the white. Compare to pic a few posts back up the page. waterfall redone 1-4-23 (2).JPG The pic also shows my first rough attempt at printing a backscene from a photo. They are A4 landscape size and will be two sheets...

Re: The Bishop's Woodland Light Railway (BWLR)
Nice to see your indoor line. It's really nice with the backscenes as so many others have said.
I am 'experimenting' with printing photos for my backscenes.
I also had a first look at a few of your videos of your garden line- it's a beautiful line and yard.

........ but the two main waterfall drops don't yet 'work' to my eyes, they look too 'solid' and white. IMO you need to inject some transparency... maybe go back to using the good old 'crinkled cellophane' type base with white flecks added to taste? Thanks Philip. I did make some 'test' pieces usin...

Sandstone and Termite web pages
I have always had a large internet site for my trains, consisting of over 50 pages. You have always seen the link at the bottom of my ‘signature’ here. I had not had time to keep the pages up to date over the last few years, but a month ago I tried to open them and they didn't work. After much was...
