Happy New Year to William, and all other members of this forum. I trust that you have an enjoyable steam up. Unfortunately I was working away from home on Xmas day so no steam up then, and I'm travelling again on 01 Jan for a few more days work away from home, so no model steam up possible then, how...

I still try to watch the Simpsons repeats when I can on CH 4. Futurama was also great, but it was a pity it stopped so early. I've just watched the Simpsons Movie on DVD (got it cheap in Dubai Duty Free on Thursday), and it has a trailer for the new Futurama film, so looking forward to seeing that o...

I started with a secondhand Mamod RS1, plus an RW3 & RW4, which I bought from the members stand at the Merstham Steam Rally in 1996. The 1st house I rented had an uneven patio, so running this set was very temperamental with lots of derailments. The 2nd house had an overgrown garden so I had to ...

No Problem ACLR, thats part of the fun with ebay.

Still ended up paying far less than these parts would cost new (at least £210). It is the latest style of PPS boiler so has the 2 additional bushes on the boiler, so I will be able to fit a pressure gauge easily on this one.

IP Jane / PPS Janet

Some time ago I got some IP Jane bodywork off ebay. I had intended getting a scrap Mamod SL1 and creating an IP Jane look-alike, although the Mamod boiler does not have the rear aperture for the safety valve in the right place for this bodywork. So when a chassis and boiler from a PPS Janet came up ...

My Non Steam Locos No.2 - IP Jessie

I've been posting a lot on steam at present, so I thought I'd balance this out with one of my non-steam locos. This is my second non steam loco, which is an IP Engineering's 'Jessie' ( http://www.ipengineering.co.uk/page50.html ) which I won on ebay sometime ago when I was building up my Garden Rail...

Thanks for your comments. steamyjim - Looking at your Mamod prototype I can see that they obviously had the bodywork already made up for these new locos, but then decided on fitting a different boiler (no whistle or steam dome). I guess the regulator must have been fitted in the cab which might expl...

Mamod William - A First Review

Having bought several Mamod SL Locos recently, I thought I would try and get a 'William' to see how these compare with the previous models. So what do you get - A Purple Cardboard Box with polystyrene inner with the loco, a 50ml bottle of steam oil, a plastic funnel, a safety sheet containing basic ...

To qualify as a Mallet loco one of your drive units would need to be fixed, whilst the other can articulate. In a Garratt both units articulate. And if I've got it right a Saxon Meyer has a fixed and an articulated unit, but the cylinders are both in the middle of the loco.

Very nice model Garratt there Chris. Unfortunately like Jim well out of my price range. I've been fortunate to find Garratts in steam on my overseas steam photographic tours, and whilst I still have not got my SCSI card removed from my dead computer in order to scan my slides, here's a couple taken ...

Will be interesting to see what price Stuart Models put this loco out, as they have always seemed to be much dearer than Cheddar Models were. Will it be available in both Gauges as before, or even better Gauge adjustable, as you could not re-gauge the Cheddar Models version? Look forward to this wit...
