Like the original Brass Steam Dome cover, the story goes that the tooling to form the RW1 Open Wagon body was lost. MSS did introduce an open wagon but it has a wooden body with coal effect load. The RW1 comes up regularly on eBay UK, and are very popular thus commanding good prices (the RW2 Lumber ...

The only thing that comes close to Samson's lubricator is a Furness lubricator. We have these fitted to our Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST. They are mounted on the front of the cylinders and rely on a vacuum effect during the exhaust stroke or when coasting to open a non return valve allowing some steam oil...

Have you opened out the gaskets to ensure the cylinder portface's steamholes aren't partially obscured? It seems that everyone is now supplying the MSS gaskets for mounting cylinders? Here's what I do. Fit the gasket to the cylinder back plate using the bolts to check how the cut-outs line up with ...

The lubricator is not of the displacement type The lubricator is unusual in that it is not the usual displacement type but has a control valve to adjust the oil flow I opened the oil valve about half a turn and used about a third of the oil. That is spot on. I'm using some original Cheddar Models s...

I consider making such a purchase and bringing it back to Canada with me ... The previous respondents had obviously not read this important part. The retailer needs to be signed up for Tax Free Shopping (also known as the VAT Retail Export Scheme). https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vat-not...

Glad to hear you found the problem Jim. If you are going to pin the return crank I was advised to get 2 drill bits (one for each side) and where possible drill through one side of the return crank before fitting then drilling through the crank pin. If you are not going to pin the return crank then e...

The incompatibility of couplings! When I first got my Ragleth Mark I it initially was running on an indoor 45mm layout at our Heritage Railway, either pulling a rake of Accucraft wagons using the chopper couplings (remove one chopper blade per wagon/loco to cope better with tight curves), or pulling...

Andy, The show plan is no longer accessible on the National Garden Railway Show website. I no longer have the PDF file of the latest Show Plan that was published, but I've attached a scan of the printed copy I kept. If that is of no use then try a message to the Show Director (Forum member laurence7...

I have the factory roof on my Lumber Jack, and a 3rd hand hinged roof on my Vincent. I find the Lumber Jack is very awkward to finely set the regulator under the roof, and on the Vincent I moved the regulator handle on the shaft so it operates over a range that is more readily accessible under the r...

I started off by giving my locos an appropriate Scottish Gaelic name, but that did not last too long when the nameplate trader had to leave the business rather smartish. I recently had to locate a commercial freeware font for Narrow Planet to use so they could produce another set of Scottish Gaelic ...
