Re: Printing thin resin sheets
Do you have some way to view the individual layers the slicer is creating? Maybe run the print without resin and see if the LCD mask shows the correct bolt pattern at the right time in the print? If the LCD is showing the the bolts, you know its some kind of printing problem, if the mask is also mis...

Re: Using OpenSCAD to produce drawings for 3D Printing
Simon How would you go about something like this? I can't even think of where to start, even in Tinkercad :( I have had success with your domes and flares. I can now print any dome I like with minimal changes, I can't thank you enough for that  Untitled.jpg I've had a bit of a go a that on...

or there is a control wheel in front of his right knee. I thought it might be a handbrake wheel, but there is no evidence of brake shoes on either version....... I noticed that too, I was wondering if that handwheel screwed the block of wood directly underneath it down onto the track to act...

Re: Dduallt Station building
I've abandoned prints where the filament has run out previously, as I didn't think it's be possible to change successfully. Yes, I can confirm that it is possble to change filament in mid print although you do need to get the 2nd filament all ready, you only have a few seconds to feed it in. Must a...

Re: PETG or not PETG?
Good to see the results of your experiment, I think I'm in agreement with Philipy regarding the usefulness of PETG for models. I do have a roll of it, but haven't really had a good reason to use it yet. Regarding the stringing, I've seen that excessive stringing can be a result of the filament takin...

Re: Corrugated X and Y axes
I moved from M5 rods (0.8mm/rev) to TR8x8 leadscrew (8mm/rev) which meant I had to change the steps per mm. Steps per mm should not really be a calibration per se, the correct value can be calculated by knowing various physical aspects of the machine, including the steps per revolution of the steppe...

Re: Corrugated X and Y axes
Looks like typical z-banding or z-wobble artefacts, if you look up those terms online you will see a wealth of information on this common issue. You say its every "1mm or so." Coarse M8 is a 1.25mm pitch, if the banding lines up with the pitch of the leadscrew you know its something linked...

Fusion 360 is free for personal or hobby use. It has some restrictions, like you can only have 10 open documents at a time, but if you do an entire model in one document that's not an issue. The FAQ says "A hobbyist user must generate less than $1,000 USD in annual revenue, using Fusion 360 for...

Re: PETG or not PETG?
Biodegradability is not something you have to worry about regarding PLA prints. Its only really biodegradable in industrial composting plants at high temperatures. PETG has better heat resistance than PLA, which might be helpful for model that is a dark colour and gets direct sun so it heats up sign...

Re: Naive battery questions
If I remember correctly the Big Big chassis are originally a 2 series 2 parallel arrangement, but of the much larger D or C cells, resulting in 3V total. As Steve said above, the parallel arrangement gives about double run time versus just the 2 cells in series.

If you are a member of the 16mm Association, you can download issues of 16mm Today back to 1985, perhaps in a flick through some of those you will find something you really like? There's also the index, where you can look at a list of drawings from 16mm Today and get a link to the issue that include...

Re: Weak Bachmann Lyn motor
If the worm wheels are standard size, then maybe a motor with smaller diameter worms might give more thrust. I'm hoping that assumption is valid. With worm gears, the gear ratio is dependent on the number of starts of the screw, not the diameter of the worm. E.g. a single start worm used with a 40 ...

Hi. I am not sure if you found that video or made it fort his example? However it took me hours to follow that video and I still ended up doing things a little differently as I could not see how some of the things were done, presumably keyboard shortcuts? Yes, I definitely used keyboard shortcuts i...

Re: Can you tell what it is yet?
Out of interest I have just had a go with TinkerCAD, your results look brilliant for what a basic set of tools it gives you. I haven't seen a good way to do the flare on the dome in TinkerCAD. This is how I would do it in Fusion 360, its very easy, at least when you know how to do it. https://...

Re: 3 D Printing 16mm models
Is there a way to view the slicer's output, layer by layer? If the odd face issues are visible in the sliced output, you know it's a slicer settings problem, otherwise you would know it's some problem with the printer not producing what the slicer software is expecting.

Re: My Flashforge Printer Journey.
Standard spool holds 1KG.. Don't want to be pedantic, but as far as I know ( unless flashforge is different) a standard reel weighs 1Kg, BUT the plastic reel itself weighs approx 250g, so their is only approx 750g of actual filament on the 1Kg reel. I've never got less than 1kg of plastic on a spoo...

Re: 3 D Printing 16mm models
As far as I know the "soften edges" just alters the shading so that instead of sharp edges you get a smooth transition between faces. Blender has a similar thing, enabled by right clicking on an object and selecting "shade smooth." These only affect the shading, not the actual tr...

Re: 3 D Printing 16mm models
The problem with printing them this way up is that the roughest parts of the finished item are on the top where they are so obvious. I would cut the horse in half and print the bottom half legs up and the top half head up and bond the two parts together. This way you get a good finish for the top s...

Re: A different 3D printed diesel
Different programs assume different units, so you often have to do some scaling to get things matched up. I often just try variations of 10/100/1000/25.4 until things look about right. Also need to consider if you are working in real-world scale or model scale, Makehuman will do things in real world...

Re: Gravity running on the RVOM
I was thinking that they might self steer around curves and avoid the flanges making contact with the rail (and causing friction) - yet to see if that has any impact. Without a solid axle connecting left and right wheels you don't get a good steering effect due to a tapered tread, there are lots of...
