Gladstone Coach to Bush Tram Carriage
A "little" project from my defunct blog, that I've been meaning to contribute to the forum for quite a while.. Back in early 2019... I wanted an end-platform carriage, reminiscent of the various carriages found on the 2ft gauge sugar tramways of Queensland. Several of these were buil...

I'll second the suggestion of the pin vice. I love mine.
Looking forward to seeing the new loco come together, always nice to see a new build.

Nice and practical, love the coffee shelf. I'd like to put something similar under a workbench one day, so storage yards like yours are always worth reading.

I wonder if a bit of soft (spongy foam) padding might absorb the vibrations.

Re: Semi-scale BR: The Modernisation Plan
A set of clacks straddling the boiler top, along with suitable firebox-top pipework and stubby boiler fittings, might lend a little further "BR-Standardism" to it, but I'm really grasping at straws - you've made a fine job already.

Suitably fiddly.

Re: Simplex Yard Shunter
29/12/23 A bit (very) slow in writing this up, but it is what it is. The bonnet sections were glued together and reinforced with thin plastic strip from behind. A coat of etch primer was applied before slapping Squadron putty on it, followed by sanding. I've left a few divots and marks in the castin...

Re: #workshopwednesday - a rolling road for the FeckHallBahn. Bach Chorale accompaniment
Aye, rolling roads aren't worth the price, IMO. One of these days I'll make my own from aluminium angle and cheap bearings - but I seem to keep getting away with blocks of wood. Yours is certainly a standard to aim for. Fully-adjustable, self-contained on a board, with a storage box to boo...

I've done that with a machine vice too. Nice conversion - You've clearly put more effort into it than I did.

Never easy to conceal wiring without compromising functionality. I'd hate to attempt wiring up a Garratt. Nice work.

I hope I'm not coming off as pushy, one way or the other - just thinking out loud. :) And that's very kind of you to offer! My first layout used SV rail, bought through an Australian dealer - nailed to home-cut wooden sleepers. I still have a few lengths, which will need plastic sleepers to reuse, s...

Aha! Thanks fellas. Just picked up two lifetimes' supply of caps for a tenner. Forgot I even mentioned the RH chassis, had to look back through my own posts to find it.  The Baguley's fine as an "out of the box" cane loco - just paint it yellow. But as a prototype, it ne...

Re: Capacitor for motor RF suppression?
Yes, the hum. I'm not surprised a simple capacitor won't cut it. Small capacitors are used to suppress electrical 'noise', ie. voltage spikes from the commutator that can cause interference with the electronics in the speed control. It usually manifests as the esc randomly stopping, or resetting, or...

Re: Biting the bullet - wholesale conversion from 45mm to SM32
Never an easy question, weather to convert or not. I had the same thought process as you. For what it's worth, I'd do it. There are very few garden lines (of any gauge) in Aust, let alone under 2hrs away, making visits a very rare prospect. Brake rigging certainly makes things fiddly. I found when c...
