Re: Yatton Models - Vale of Ffestiniog
I've now fitted the side panels to the locomotive. It's starting to really come together. The main chassis has been lightly sanded. I've tidied up the 3D printed parts with some model filler so they can now be attached. Currently pondering whether to fit the roof before the primer goes on, I figure ...

Re: Yatton Models - Vale of Ffestiniog
I must admit, the more I get into the build of this locomotive the more I'm enjoying putting the kit together. There are a few more annoyances (to me!) about the design of the kit but generally it goes together pretty well. I managed to get a good amount of time to work on this over the last couple ...

Rik is balance charging something I’d need to consider with this pack? Still a bit confused on that front.

Re: Battery help
If you want sound, and are considering a MyLocoSound card: Then I would suggest a minimum of either 8 NiMH, or a '3S' Lithium-based battery.. - Unless the loco is a big square empty box, I would not recommend SLA. If you decide on NiMH batteries, then for the 'how-many' calculation, use a value of ...

Re: Yatton Models - Vale of Ffestiniog
It was not my intention to trash anyone, this is a build thread and I'm simply commenting on the quality of the kit as delivered. I have only shown a few examples but all of the 3D printed parts are of poor quality. Many of the laser cut pieces suffered the same defects. Given these are made to orde...

Battery help
I'm currently in the process of building my first battery loco. The receiver I bought from Yatton models (RXY3v1) is based on DelTang modules and the specification lists input voltage of 4V to 16V. This has left me somewhat baffled about what batteries to source. Having scrolled through many posts i...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
The rivet detail really makes this model! I love the great western detailing on the payload wagon. Where do you buy the chequer plate from? I was looking for something similar only last night, is it something like this? https://www.hattons.co.uk/46143/plastruct_ps_150_91682_g_double_diamond_plate/st...

Re: Yatton Models - Vale of Ffestiniog
That really does look a disaster, and one I would have definitely returned immediately! Having said that, I would not be buying from them in the first place, after friends have discussed their own problems with the same supplier. Manufacturers like Jerry Irwin, The Lineside Hut and Sixteen Mills al...

Re: Yatton Models - Vale of Ffestiniog
Building the chassis was a total nightmare. I'm not sure if it arrived warped or it warped in the box before I started the kit but the main chassis plate had to be straightened. Warm water on the concave part then overnight under the weight of several chopping boards seemed to sort the twist. Some o...

Re: Yatton Models - Vale of Ffestiniog
First step was to build the bogies. Here they are with some rather roughly applied filler waiting to be sanded before a coat of primer. There are a few more 3D printed parts to fit but they need cleaning up before being attached. IMG_1115.jpeg The kit includes two gear boxes and motors to power one ...

Re: Yatton Models - Vale of Ffestiniog
These photos demonstrate the poor quality of laser cutting & 3D printing. Given the cost of the kit I should really have returned some of these pieces but I guess I can't resist a challenge..

Yatton Models - Vale of Ffestiniog
A few months ago I purchased the Funkey Diesel “VALE OF FFESTINIOG” kit from Yatton Model Engineering. I've only recently started to build the kit and can't say I'm overly impressed so far. Maybe I've just been spoilt by Jerry Irwin's kits. First off, here are some photos of the kit contents. Variou...

Re: Cleaning up 3D prints
Yatton Models. Can’t say I’m impressed with the laser cut parts either! Going to take a lot of filler and sanding across the whole model to get it looking tidy. I guess it gives me more to do which isn’t a bad thing in the current environment .

Cleaning up 3D prints
I recently purchased a kit that included numerous 3D printed parts. Unfortunately the quality of the prints is somewhat variable. Other than many coats of primer, does anyone have any tips on cleaning up the prints? The print in grey had lots of loose filament which I've cut off, I was thinking of f...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
The remainder of the five 'Lineside Hut' coaches are now complete and stand in-line for their photograph on the railway..... IMG_8224.JPG I am very satisfied with their look, they have been a real pleasure to build, plenty of opportunity to add detail, both inside and out. The quality of the materi...

David,
Not sure if you've come across this website yet - http://www.terryrusselltrams.co.uk. Terry sells various parts and kits in various scales. If you fancy scratch building something he has a wealth of scale drawings available to purchase.
