Re: Plans for a couple of loco's

Look forwards to seeing pictures of your Microbe when it's finished. I'm not sure whether I'll go live steam or just steam outline for these two as they are so small. I did find another picture of Bacillus, this one in service, thanks to a website having a copy of an ebay listing so have a front vie...

Re: Plans for a couple of loco's

Thank you, that is very helpful :) I met Tom Cooper when I was young, we were on a family holiday in Wales and from a slightly old advert tracked down what we thought was the Merlin shop. Embarrassingly it was shortly after he had, in his own words, had the company stolen from him. He was a real gen...

Hope you get the warranty sorted. Paypal does sound like the best way to go.

Mamod safety valve o-ring

Hi, Because of a broken sight glass I've stripped down one of my mamods and replaced the sight glass plus all the seals etc, is it possible to replace the little o-ring that seals the safety valve (I've already replaced the fibre washer), I couldn't see any obvious way to dismantle the safety valve ...

Re: Clockwork Wren

Good tip :) My wife got me these for our wedding anniversary this year, any left over milliput goes straight in rather than going to waste so I can build up a collection of rivets and bolt heads :) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pack-x2-RIVETS-Textured-Stamp-SILICONE-MOLD-resins-Impression-screws-nut-/27...

Re: Clockwork Wren

So, a while back I bought a 4 axis desktop CNC router with some inheritance money and I've been using it to cut out some of the pieces for the wren. Today I bravely tried using the 4th axis to turn the funnel and, in spite of a couple of hours of teething problems, I think it worked out okay :) http...

You can get sets of jewellers punches which will do the job, I've got a pair of engineers focussed that I sharpened so they will cut plastic but its more rudely than using punches.

The DES is Department of Explosive Supplies.

The cabs were half across the front, down one side and across the back, from what I can tell they were just added onto the steel frame that holds the standard wren roof up.

It was "Porton Down 75 years of chemical and biological research" by GB Carter, however Industrial Rail Record no. 148 has this picture and some others too as well as full details of the locos and their history before they were used on the Porton Light Railway.

It depends on the plastic, acetone will melt most styrene based plastics and while not as effective as MEL can be used as a plastic weld glue. We occasionally have a bit of fun at work buiding stuff using acetone and disposable plasticwear :)

http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo30/a3000inperil/P1180417.jpg This is the progress so far, I suspect the cab would be a little fragile for smaller children (my 2yo and 5yo won't be getting their hands on this one) but the rest comes out fairly strong. Next job is to cut out the bits to make the...

Thanks for all the replies, especially the measurements for Microbe. I've had a go at warping the Bacillus picture so that it is closer to a side on view and assuming a 4 foot wheel base the loco comes out at 8'6" so I'm probably not too far out :) I've also found a small picture of Bacillus in...

Our line is a combination of Mamod track and tinplate so it rockets quite well along the route :) Our two boys spent happy hours this summer chasing around the garden as the chassis shot along telling it to slow down :)

Clockwork Wren

A while back I bought a couple of Hornby clockwork chassis, no body included and have finally started to build a body for one. The wheelbase isn't right but I've always likes Kerr Stuart Wrens so decided to make one. The body as of yesterday... http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo30/a3000inperil/P1...
