Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

What a wild week it's been! The snow melted enough over the weekend that I was able to dig in some big stones for footers under most of the front wall on Monday... Screenshot_20240405-085431__01.jpg But then throughout Tuesday and Wednesday we had freezing rain turning to 5-6 inches of snow on top. ...

Re: The Railway in the Valley of the Mill

It all looks so green! I've been hoping to get a start on my gardening soon but we just got 6 inches of snow this week. At least I can't see the weeds. :dontknow:

I'll be honest, on the first pass I didn't suspect anything untill somewhere between 'increase exposure of the group' and 'see our members in person'! :laughing3:

Re: 32mm/45mm railway

Perhaps the 2 foot line is a privately owned industrial/mining/field railway. It could have been built with military surplus stock after the first Great War when there was extra 600mm/2ft equipment going around, or maybe the 2ft gauge track is easier to lay temporary sections for something like a pe...

I've seen pictures of tipper wagons with inside bearings, so you certainly won't hear any complaint from me! Looks like it fits right in.

I'm absolutely interested, though also on a long timescale. (Maybe a next winter project ;) ) I think it would fit very well on my line... my little Thornas was originally meant to be a Hunslet before I got seriously distracted!

If it's short, four wheel coaching stock you have in mind, you have up to eight in your hands already. Your four bogie coaches have the potential of being cut down and modified whilst improving your scratch building skills at the same time. If it is possible to re-gauge the wheelsets, axleguards co...

Yeah, and it only took me a year and, what, six pages of spinning my wheels and overthinking everything?

I try not to compare projects though... Everybody's got different goals and different circumstances!

Wow, that chain is impressive! Resin printed? I knew a guy who carved wooden chains like that out of a single block.

Re: Wibbly wobbly roof

Rik, I've had the same issue with some of my cardboard roofs but hadn't expected it to happen with a 3D printed roof. I have an OpenSCAD model somewhere for roof battens with an interlocking spine; I use it for cardboard roofs but it might be usable as a form for thin ply or plastic. Screenshot_2024...

Good to see you back! Sorry the show was a bust. I figured you might be focusing on other interests for a while since I keep seeing your Lego engines on youtube, interesting stuff even if I don't fully understand the mechanics of it all. If I could watch PBS Kids all day I probably would. ...

Thanks Drew. I've seen them with 1914 on as well. Unless somebody can advise differently, I think I'm going to forget about it. I can't believe it was a standard fitting! I've seen a lot of Gmeinders at this point and only this one has it... Unless you're attempting to recreate this particular disp...

It's an iron cross and a laurel wreath, so it might be a memorial or a symbol of the locomotive's use. Searching "Eisernes Kreuz im Kranz" yielded similar results: s-l1200(1).jpg https://www.akpool.de/ansichtskarten/27000885-kuenstler-ansichtskarte-postkarte-durch-not-und-tod-zum-sieg-eise...

Re: Ooops! - I have bought this

Well done Phil. Glad she worked out ok. I can sympathise with wanting to keep her as original as poss, but IMO having a working and accurate pressure gauge is more important that keeping the original fitting 'just because', especially given the old brass boiler. You don't want to inadvertantly over...

Re: Ooops! - I have bought this

I don't have live steam experience, but if it's anything like an air compressor gauge there's a curled tube inside with a link to the needle. Sometimes the connecting link becomes disconnected or otherwise breaks, and if that is the case you might be able to get away with fixing or replacing the lin...

Re: British businesses who won't sell to Canada

Seems a bit harsh that. Although if the seller or even the buyer isn't covered for legal reasons or whatever it is, should be addressed I think, why stop a buyer from buying something that another buyer from other countries can buy it, apart from those that you have mentioned...just so harsh again....

A bit surprising, but not unheard of around here. We often have overnight snow showers through April so I could see us getting one or two more by the end of the season. The small controller was beyond excited, asking me to hook up the sled train (both kids' sleds coupled together) and make tracks an...

Spring snow caught the NVT off-guard last night, and a pair of slate wagons wait at the halt for the melt. Screenshot_20240322-115658.jpg The wagons are full of slate chips from the local landscaping supplier. I was there this week getting some info on stones for the front wall... Next I need to do ...
