EEEERRRrrr, Chris, The lowered engine block on my Brunel is about a quarter of a inch at the most! I cannot see that little bit of 'lowering' making much difference. I can tell what will though...the weighty white metal buffers I am fitting right now to the buffer beams that all of my locomotive's h...

Hello, Judging by your name you come from France???? Mamods are not for the un-wary, From my own knowledge you best buy a Roundhouse 'Millie' as they are easy to light up, wonderful after sales service....and they work without hassle every time. The only reason I purchased a Brunel is that I wanted ...

I shuddered when I read this topics title! In 1986 I purchased a Merlin Monarch new. I had a morgage and two young daughters. There was no internet with forums like this. I had lots of trouble with the engine and getting spares out of Merlin was awfull!! They never answered the phone or letters. I e...

I see on here (below) a lot of messages about the 'Rob Bennett' style of figures with rustic faces. I like them but not the cost!! Sometimes I start counting up the cost when I see a picture in SMT that shows the owner of such and such railway has little imagination but a deep pocket. I see on the t...

Hello Mike, When I start converting the locomotive I intend/hope to have a exhaust pipe up by the chimney to give a impression of steam coming out there! I have a small condenser that...hopefully will join the gas tank at the front of Jakarna. I have a 1/8" pipe bender to bend the copper tubing...

Very cheap 7/8" scale building.

Hello, On my industrial line there is a halt where mass goods are dispatched....tubs of fruit! For years I have thought of putting a 'office' there. Recently this happened and here is two or so pictures of the event. In all the build cost me around eight pounds, far, far cheaper than buying a kit an...

I think your sumise about the cab of that Mamod is correct....it looks most strange! I think the engine with a higher weather board would pass as a 7/8" scale engine though personally I would not buy a ordinary Mamod as I want a locomotive to work properly straight out of the box...Like my old ...

Hello Chris, I am hoping that the shown boiler position will stop the flame creep that the boiler to the side position produces. The 'creep' looks like the 'steam'?? that comes off dry ice! On my burner too much gas produces flowing all under the engine which make the frame dead hot....No chance to ...

After those serious?? pictures here is a more typical picture of the train enroute to the Reynolston Engine shops where company mechanics will give the new locomotive the once over! The pusher is 'Pectin'...the converted Froig BBE and also some of the staff plus a pig are eyeing up the goods..... ./...

I have taken pictures of the cog's underneath plus close-ups of 'Jakarna....(Urdu for JAM!)...top wise. To tell you the truth I think the rest of the improvements must be cosmetic. Maybe the next improvement might be 'Direction Control'?? If so I will buy it to add on. I am doing this in the kitchen...

A tale of two Brunels!

Hello, The improved Mamod 'Brunel' that I ordered nearly two weeks ago finally arrived. I had to make a decision to purchase it as my existing Brunel 7/8" scale conversion was building up steam and I hate having to take stuff apart when I convert stuff, then have to undo it all! I can see that ...

Actually one of the things I hope to do is run a exhaust pipe up to the chimney top so the spent steam looks like its coming out of the locomotive chimney. Putting on a higher chimney is needed as regards to the scale change. The steam outlet will be below the chimney top. I purchased a condenser to...

Thanks Mike for that valuable information however as I am doing 7/8" scale I have started the conversion up to that scale! My Brunel has new buffer beams and buffers plus the fact that I sawed off the flare on the chimney as the existing chimney was too low for 7/8" scale so I can fit a ta...

I emailed Mamod about the Mark two engine recently. I don't know anything yet about being able to add the current improvements to my Mark One Brunel. Regarding the new gearing of the latest Brunel's I think the main stumbling block is different cut-outs to allow the new gearing cogs. As I live nearly near the Mamod Factory I must go over to find out about the foot plate cut-outs. A locomotive that goes sedately along is far better than a 'bullet'...

Actually debating down the shed I feel it would be stupid buying a Roy Woods De Winton type locomotive for over £600 considering what I plan to do to my Brunel to get it up to 'rubber-scale' 7/8" scale. Actually I don't need another steamer but its nice to have a locomotive with a different pro...
