Re: Alf

But of course, anything for you :D Oooh thank you, ducky! That driver looks spot on, and beautifully painted. Unfortunately I can't take the credit for the driver. I have a good friend who has painted many of my figures and the detail / natural look he manages to get is well beyond my talents...

Re: Alf

The problem I have is that all my loco's have the same power adaptor. Problem I've had is that the force required to insert/remove the charger plug, is sometimes detrimental to something on the loco. Recently I've taken to using Graemes method of a couple of brass screws under the loco and croc cli...

Re: The WWLR Layout Begins

Following an unwelcome visit by a delivery van, that demolished part of the front of out house, we have been told that we will have to move into temporary rented accommodation for at least 6 months while repairs are carried out. Fortunately no one was injured in the bizarre incident, but it's...

Re: Alf

Nice work. The battery voltage reminder underneath is a great idea. Beats my method of "forget, then check the loco's records and hope you've recorded it when the loco was built".  The problem I have is that all my loco's have the same power adaptor. After having a few with...

Nothing new there... have you seen the adverts for the Nissan E-power?... has a battery and electric motor to drive the wheels... plus a petrol engine to generate power to charge the battery! Strangely enough, that's how most cruise liners work too, except they use diesel engines to power t...

I was thinking how long the cable would have to be on a large garden railway and what happens under bridges / tunnels

Re: Palmerston - Small England Loco as built

I made a very similar extension for an MFA 918 motor for a Castle Harlech I did back in 2020. I made the shaft on the lathe in brass with a grub screw to hold it to the motor and made an idler bearing holder for it to run through. Unfortunately no pictures of the underneath I made and sold the loco ...

Re: Trucks

It all starts with filament printing, then it goes to both filament and resin printing and then a small laser cutter for wood and acrylic. It's a very slippery slope  I do all three as I find wood is good and cheap for coaches and wagons , fine detail resin and larger parts in filament. (I admi...

Nope, that's a rub down, prime, rub down and paint one. It actually came out quite well for a non papered one.

Alf

Well today I have almost finished my 3D printed version of Alf. I still have the seat to paint, the magnets to put in the buffers and a driver to fit, if I can find the one I had in mind for it. Anyways, here it, I quite like it, but each to their own. IMG20240209181008.jpg IMG20240209181019.jpg IMG...

Updates

The forum has now been successfully updated to the latest software. You may see some minor changes, such as arrows against the board index to let you know you are not at the top level or the change in the size of the lettering at the top of the page. Over the next week or so we will be working in th...

Oh that little bit, yeah, part of the changes / update, it may well change again.

The important thing is the board is running the latest software, appearances may change over the next few weeks, but nothing major.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

I do have an update on the battery situation after all this time. Component Shop are still showing 'no stock' of many of their battery products but have supplied me with individual tagged AAA low self discharge batteries which are now made into a single eight pack, (4 square + 4 square) which fit i...
