Spring movie

We had some snow on Friday, and thus the weather was uncomfortable on Saturday in Nashville. But it was great today, thus I decided to make this movie. Please enjoy.

Re: How to align the crankshafts?

A lot of people have trouble at this stage of the PDF kits, myself included. Yes, the cranks must be 90 degrees offset from one another. British convention is to have the Right-Hand crank 90 degrees ahead of the Left-Hand one. Reading the instructions at that point on the Hunslet really is painful....

How to align the crankshafts?

This is the first time I learn how to assemble a PDF Quarry Hunslet locomotive. I always have a problem, not only this model but every steam locomotive when it comes to assembling the crankshaft. For the PDF model, we have to tighten the cranks to the axel of the wheels first before aligning the sha...

Dual mode vehicle (DMV) tested in Japan

I guess the new hybrid train-bus system got inspiration from the garden models. But here, it is testing in Japan.

No idea as to what is causing the hold up. If you are UK based, you might find LocoRemote a more reliable (and cheaper) option http://www.locoremote.co.uk/ Rik Thank you Rik for the information. I didn't know LocoRemote before. But I just contacted them and ordered the remote control board via emai...

bluerail board procurement

I am planning for some in-door work on the locomotives as usual when the Winter is approaching. One of my interests is to install the bluerail board that can control the locomotive via an iPhone, but somehow, I tried to contact them for the procurement in the past 3 weeks, nobody answered my emails....

Re: USA trains gear

It turned out NWSL does not have the right gear for the model. They said this is the first time they heard of gears for USA trains dockside. So my next approach is trying to find a matching pair gear/worm gear with similar dimensions to those I am going to replace. After searching for the gears unf...

Re: USA trains gear

Thanks all, for the information. I looked into NWSL and it seems it has similar gears that I need. I just contacted them for the potential match so I can order. USA Trains usually does not sell the gears but they sell the whole 3 axels-wheels as a complete set. But unfortunately, they even don't ha...

USA trains gear

My locomotive's gear broke; I notice 2 teeth are in bad condition, and this is the third time I encounter this problem. I wonder if there is any service to create brass gears? I hope the lifetime will be longer than the plastic counterparts.

Re: kits for broken screw mounts?

I have had a few of these, first I find a plastistrut tube that fits over the mount and cut to length, assuming it will not interfere with re-assembly, I the fill the screw hole and crack with plastic filler, and glue on the plastic ring. I normally leave 24 hrs and then pilot drill out the hole, a...

kits for broken screw mounts?

I did some maintenance for the locomotives today, and I found a few screw mounts either crack or totally broken. I wonder if there is a kit available for patching up these broken screw mounts?
