Re: eBay madness
Some of the prices realised by the Abbott collection recently blew my mind, especially given that it was listed with a private auctioneer who adds ~25% in fees on top of the hammer price. Granted, proceeds were going to the Welshpool & Llanfair railway, so maybe people felt generous in light of ...

Re: The Reading and Squamish Light Railway Stock Thread
Plastic. Whilst the kit has no interior I wanted to make the roof removable when/in case I make one. I heated the roof a bit to help it form around the supports but overdid it slightly I guess, hence the warped corner.

Re: The Reading and Squamish Light Railway Stock Thread
Nice one Ted, I like the way the windows drop down either side of the engine casing, very prototypical. Grant. Heh. It's an IP Glaslyn kit, built exactly per the instructions, so I can't take too much credit! I'll be honest, I was a bit disappointed with some aspects of the kit. The website descrip...

Re: The Reading and Squamish Light Railway Stock Thread
The Reading & Squamish workshops recently commissioned some supporting motive power in light of the increased stock arriving on the line... The work experience kid already managed to drive it into the workshop doorway, incurring some minor roof damage. The manager had some coarse language to sha...

Re: Roundhouse Fowler
How much water are you guys filling the boiler with? Roundhouse recommend filling the boiler then withdrawing 30ml. If I do this with my Lady Anne there's always a fair amount of water left when the gas runs out, & that's after running for 30 minutes or so.

Re: Snowdon mountain railway - rack and pinion in garden form?
If you are running live steam then fit an inertia device. That will only help the OP if the inertia device is in a trailing wagon. The inertia device smooths power delivery to the wheels. The OP's problem is traction to deliver power to the rail. If an inertia device is in a trailing wagon than it ...

Re: GRR - Light Railway Extension
I reckon if you wanted you could still fit a nice 'low relief' station between the furthest track & your shed with your original layout if you wanted. Looks like you're not short of space though so your second plan looks good!

Looks great! I imagine all that extra weight low down will definitely help with traction & stable running.

Re: The Reading and Squamish Light Railway Stock Thread
Do you ever make ambitious plans of doing everything perfectly, then wake up the next day and think "S*d it?!" Despite writing a mental shopping list of all the things I was going to go out and buy yesterday (flux remover, etch primer, top coat...) I woke up in the morning and figured why ...

Re: The Reading and Squamish Light Railway Stock Thread
Yep. Just rosin electrical flux. Just lots of it as it's tough to solder tinplate when it's coated with the aforementioned printing & epoxy layers. Even if I did try & sand down to metal at the joins. I'll see if I can pick up a wire brush attachment for the Dremel tomorrow & some approp...

Re: The Reading and Squamish Light Railway Stock Thread
Being confined to your 'house' looks OK to me! I should point out that the running pics are definitely NOT in my home! The local garden center used to have a permanent layout available for public running, and a g-scale train shop on site. Sadly both have been disbanded for business reasons, but our...

Bit of a thread bump as I'm going to be working on a few bits with being more confined to the house... Re: Brandbright coach paint schemes
How about a picture of Brandbright coaches being pulled by a maroon Lady Anne?! :D I chose to use a brown exterior stain on my coaches rather than paint. The livery is sort of a cross between LNER teaks and GWR chocolate and cream. I think it looks good, but I'm biased...! LA_and_Bbright_coaches-2.j...

Re: Roundhouse's new engine for 2020 and beyond
I love the idea of the Davenport. Hopefully being a North American loco that is a real prototype with broad appeal it does well for Roundhouse. Something about it looks slightly off to me though. Maybe it's because most of these locos were inside framed, & I suspect those that were outside frame...

You could well be right. I'm modeling in SolidWorks, which I'm very sure models genuine circles, but I have to export to .STL in order to open in my printer software (Cura) & i suspect the triangles used by the STL export do what you describe. In any case, it's only noticeable very up close now ...

Re: The Reading and Squamish Light Railway Stock Thread
Great looking tank wagon. That 3D printed tank looks high quality. No sign (to me) or ridges or strata. Have you done a lot of filling and rubbing down or are 3D printers getting better? Rik There was quite a bit of filling & sanding, though it wasn't so much the "layering" of plastic...

Made a tank wagon out of a North Pilton Works flat car, a 3D printed tank, some bike spokes & some pieces of wood.
Need to figure out some graphics for it but pretty pleased with how it came out!
