I think the Beddgellert model is a beautiful thing indeed. But there is a reason I am a supporter of freelance designs: cost. Usually anything based on a prototype will have several hundred extra quid thrown on top of the price and for a prospective newbie like me that is quite off-putting.

That's more manageable but it would require a great amount of savings on my part...

Although it is a beautiful model, I get the feeling that this is going to be one of the most expensive models in the RH catalogue. If Talesin cost around £1800 , then this larger model based on a real-life prototype is going to cost at least £2200 by my estimations. I hope to God I am wrong because ...

Meths-fired Roundhouse Pooters did. The shaft passed through the flames. Is that safe? I guess it is otherwise they wouldn't have done it... Don't Meths burn at a higher temperature than gas? If so, what's stopping an adaptation for the Millie? Apologies if these are stupid questions... And Keith h...

So, basically any engine with an externally fired boiler cannot have the Hackworth valve hear, right?

Roundhouse Hackworth Valve Gear

Does anyone have any experience using this? I would like to know their thoughts on it; is it a worthwhile investment? Also from pictures it seems like it is tooled for specific locomotives... I have seen a couple of Berties with HW gear but no Millies (for example). Is it possible to fit it to a Mil...

Radio Control for different scales

Out of curiosity, is it possible to have radio control for the larger scales and gauges, say 3.5" and 5" gauge (either modelling standard or narrow gauge)? My thoughts are that it is virtually unheard of but surely if you have large enough servos, it is entirely possible... EDIT: Just thou...

Oh yeah I had forgotten about the Saxonian IIIK. I didn't realise the cylinders were between the frames on this one... What kind of valve gear is that utilising though? I've ever seen it before...

Yeah I was only toying with the idea really. At the moment I don't have the money nor the time to start messing around with all that so it could be years until anything is even started. No matter.

At last I have created a discussion that hasn't broken down into great confusion!! This is a momentous occasion for me :D This is all great information here guys! Thanks a lot! The reason I asked is because any locos I have come across in the 15mm or 16mm scale seem to have either 0-4-0 inside cylin...

Some useful information there guys! Would I be right in assuming that slip eccentric valve gear would take up less room than, say, simulated Stephenson's valve gear as used by Accucraft?

Narrow gauge.

There are, as you said, examples of metre-gauge and larger locos but I was wondering if it were possible to recreate in 16mm or even 15mm scale.

EDIT: I was thinking 45mm gauge would be a lot easier due to the extra space.

Inside Cylinders

I am curious: is there an example of anyone attempting to create a locomotive with inside cylinders (à la LMS Jinty, for example) in 16 or 15mm scale, without resorting to using a motor with oscillating cylinders?

Very much looking forward to seeing this new loco develop. A good price for beginners like me... I may have found my first buy when I can gather some disposable wealth! I am thinking a conversion into a Black Hawthorn industrial saddle tank may be in order :-) Is there any news on a 45mm gauge versi...

Thanks for the tips, sir! They will be most useful. Also J am glad to hear they are made of wood and not brass because then even an idiot with limited resources such as myself can put them together! :P

Such descriptions really want me to hit the BIN button. (if there was any) Why? @MDLR: When you say "a different method of construction from the norm", what do you mean by that? What sorts of things are required for construction? (Bearing in mind I don't have access to a workshop. ...

Yatton Model Engineering
