Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

I've got the front mostly filled in, just need a bit more dirt and some leveling and it'll be ready for track and plants! Screenshot_20240527-154454.jpg We're supposed to have storms again this evening into tomorrow. Hopefully that'll help the dirt and fill settle in and give a good base for levelin...

Re: A Quiet Sunday

I know it's harmless, but Ugh I think the worst insect we have to suffer in the UK (apart from Midges) are Cockchafers (aka May Bug or Doodlebug). Some years ago we had some guests from Mexico staying with us one September. They were terrified when they saw some DaddyLonglegs...thought they were gia...

Re: Diorama or Real Life

The scale of the weeds and the fine wrinkles on the tarp are all that gave it away as 1:1 scale. What an inspiring scene!

I love the whimsical inhabitants and that green NDM6 at 15:25. Earlier in the video the climbing loop was reminding me of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, so I'm sure it fits in well there.

Looks like some lovely level trackwork, I bet that makes for smooth running! Do you have plans for the middle or will it all be gravel?

Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

Saturday it dried out enough between storms that I was able to get the wall to a state I might call finished, and could start adding fill behind it... Screenshot_20240526-223944.jpg Today it stormed on and off and there was no hope of leveling the trackbed or completing the fill. I think we're suppo...

Re: Imagine finding this in your back garden

One of the concessions I made for this house was that I knew there was no way I'd be able to fit my childhood 4x8 HO layout in the basement. Who knows, if I could've made it fit, I might never have ventured into the garden!

I'll admit it was on my mind when we first looked at our big backyard... Then I ignored all that space and started building in a tiny corner.

Anybody know which figure that is? I'd be happy to chip in a few quid toward a replacement. Or I think I have an STL somewhere around here for a guy with a clipboard...

I've often seen this thread cited as recommended reading for new members, alongside the Peckforton blog... I certainly felt like I'd completed a rite of passage when I finally finished reading through the whole thing!

Re: Bachmann Lyn Question

They kind of look like Burlington style rerailers, but I'm not 100% sure that's what they're supposed to be.

I've had a hard time finding reference photos with anything similar mounted on a locomotive pilot. They must have based it on something...

I split this into its own topic as the previous thread was from 2008, and I don't think anybody on there has been around recently. (https://gardenrails.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=243 in case it's helpful for reference.) Are you talking about the wedge-shaped things on the Bachmann Big Hauler version ...

Oooh, I'm imagining something like the Irish peat lines, maybe with those rustic looking wooden crate wagons for the moss?! That sounds wonderful! Put your railway to work. That's got me thinking, maybe I can run an extension out to the vegetable patch and compost pile  I'm reminded of thi...

Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library

Attention to detail and consideration given to so many aspects of this (the railway, rolling stock, operations, video) is, of course, so impressive. Love the sheep audio! Sheep audio was something that stood out to me as well, as something I wouldn't have thought to add but that gives a lot of ambi...

Wow Drew, I didn't realise that the Nolwyn Valley railway had developed this far. It all looks very rustic.I need to re-read you thread. The camera angle is deceptive... After reading the whole article one thing that caught my eye was that she didn't want to "settle" for battery power, but planned to run live steam... I guess the battery mafia hasn't gotten to her yet! I bet her kids would have a lot of fun with some battery locos-- mine sure do! Thr...

It looks really lovely, Rik. I hope I can make it over to visit someday. :coolphotos

I have a few domestic trips planned this summer that involve a rail history preservation element... I might have to borrow this idea and see if anybody can guess where I am!

Wow, lucky! Sounds like it ended up in the right hands.

All I found in my back garden was 300 bricks and a bunch of trash!
