Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

A downy woodpecker visited the line the other day. It made for a decent bird's-eye view of the line as well. Screenshot_20240517-014200__01.jpg The wall has met with spousal approval but I keep fiddling with it. I suppose it's better to get the placement perfect now rather than notice things after i...

Re: Here's the land for the future railroad

Wow, some great scenery you've got to work with there. I've read about those beetles, they can spray boiling chemicals out the back end  Your wildlife sure makes me appreciate mine... Even if we do have to shovel the lake flies off the sidewalk a few weeks a year, at least they don't sting or...

I think I know it again, but somebody else can have this one. :salute:

(I might've heard this one has steamroller wheels? )

Re: where am I?

The distinctive large/boxy side tanks were the first clue, though the wheels did throw me off a bit... I hadn't realized they were so small! The glimpse of the crest on the tank and the mineral wagon in the background were also helpful clues. I didn't even notice the buffers until after answering, b...

Re: It's a Sign!

So, does that mean you never do any wallpapering?? Because, using a plumbline, that's how you get a vertical line on a wall to line the edge of the wallpaper to. I've been doing it that way for 50 years and never had any probs ( he says modestly!). In fact you can actually get plumblines with...

Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

Nice loco! Love the belt drive (is that what you'd call it?), beautifully quirky. And that corner's looking just right... Cheers, Andrew. Thanks! I was trying to make it look like it was built from scraps in the quarry's workshop, which it kind of was; the skip frame it's built on had lost two axle...

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway

Whoopee, a cupee! I'll admit I get a bit confused if a loco component doesn't have a red (+) and a black (-) on it. (And even then I get mixed up sometimes!) So would the exhaust steam come into the middle set of tubes from the cylinders, and depending on the position of the pistons ...

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway

The screw on the end looks like it could be for attaching a handle, so does it have some kind of valve inside? The symmetrical nature of the dual outlets suggests it might connect to something that's the same on both sides, like cylinders maybe. (I don't know much about steam locos, but I'm pretty s...

Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

Rod, I was looking back at old threads and I see you have a similar little diesel "Logan". My "Moke" uses the same Jenbach JW15 body shell but sits on a skip frame, with some customizations to fit a scavenged toy motor and 2xAA battery box. It was my first 3D printed loco and is ...

Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

Well done Drew. My little help thread has succeeded in doing what I wanted it to, to get more members to make videos and show off their lines. Yours is a little bit short your right  But hey, who cares, you have done it and I like the speed of the loco. Nice clear shot.:bravo Thanks Rod, I had...

Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

Not tried them myself (yet) but you could use the editing tools built into YouTube Rik Thanks Rik, I'll take a look. My first problem I'm noticing as I look back through my recent recordings, is that I tend to start the recording too late and end it too soon, so it turns out pretty abrupt in a vide...

Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

I've finally done it... uploaded a test video to YouTube! https://youtu.be/80V9j4a2SGQ To do: learn to edit and make a longer fancier video. (Rik, Nigel, et al make it look so easy!) At this point the entire completed section can be covered in less than ten seconds anyway, so this is about it. I did...

Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library

Attention to detail and consideration given to so many aspects of this (the railway, rolling stock, operations, video) is, of course, so impressive. Love the sheep audio! Sheep audio was something that stood out to me as well, as something I wouldn't have thought to add but that gives a lot of ambi...

Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

Thanks Rod and Philip, I appreciate the encouragement! Really helps keep me going when things don't go as planned, or as quickly as planned... After a few rains, the ballast has settled in a bit and the track seems stable. I'm still trying to decide how best to pin it down to keep it from getting ri...

The "free" print time is one big selling point of a resin printer. (That and of course the detail!)

When I try printing a bunch of things at once in FDM, all I get is more points of failure.

Maybe? Pure conjecture on my part. I also have no idea about LGB or 45mm, just a case of convergent evolution I guess.

Re: My Mamod Quarry - Update

Very interesting, I had planned to fit a pair of traction tires to the drive wheels of the new larger diesel I've been working on, but decided to start with just one tire. Given the tight curves of my line, it seemed like two might cause skipping with a solid axle between them (no differential).

I think it is Phil... I spotted that little peek of the drive chain! :D

Keeping my eye on this one Rik. I used one of those geared motors on Thornas originally and really like the (quiet) sound and performance.
