Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd

if you look closely at the photo you can make out where I have filled holes, level with half way up the hand rails I have fitted, on the four vertical frame members, Yes, I can see now, sorry. However sometimes there are horizontal handrails at about that position, although normally with full lengt...

Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd

Thats looking really good, Phil.

Re your earlier comment about 4 handrails, it was pretty normal for there to be vertical handrails both sides of the guards entrance to the veranda. Is that what you were referring to?

Re: The Railway in the Valley of the Mill

When I started to try to draw this out, reality soon set in - there just isn't enough space. Yes, there is, you just have to dig out more of the hillside and build a bigger retaining wall!   Sorry, couldn't resist! Seriously, it looks to be coming on well and yesterday seems ...

Re: Imagine finding this in your back garden

Who in here didn't buy their house because they could get a railway in it.. Well, I must hold my hand up and say "I didn't". In 1997 when I bought this place, I was still firmly modelling in P4 ( 4mm finescale) with a 23ft x 23ft exhibition layout which had been under construction s...

Re: The Great Garden Railway Inspection Reports

Some of you may remember that back last summer, Mr I.N. Spectre's assistant, a French gent by the name of M.DePuty paid a quick visit to Peter B's line and did a report for us. Since his boss is MIA, last week we promoted M. DePuty to being Temporary Acting Big Cheese Inspector of Garden Railways. A...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway

Rampant campanula was my problem this year. Rampant moss is mine... I'm thinking of starting an export business - using rail transport of course, if I can clear enough of it to allow the trains to run! Oooh, I'm imagining something like the Irish peat lines, maybe with those rustic looking wooden c...

Re: June 2024 Garden Railway Gallery - ENTER HERE

Just a reminder to enter, for those who haven't already.

I've just realised that I didn't put a closing date for entries at the beginning of the thread.
My apologies for that, but the closing date for entries will be 13th June.

Grant, yep, that what it says. He was 90 and his wife had predeceased him. He was on his own and he hadn't kept on top of things. Sad really, but likely to come to many of us one day.

Re: The Great Garden Railway Inspection Reports

Sorry Guys. The Inspectors previous host seems to have gone off the radar. Back in Feb he promised to post the Inspector on "in the next couple of weeks" and he hasn't been seen on here since then. I know he has personal problems but if he doesn't respond there isn't much I can do, unfortu...

Re: It's a Sign!

There's a really cool trick where you "snap" a guide line onto your surface, which involves covering string in chalk, holding it really taut just above where you need it, then kind of pinging it against it to leave a line - I've not tried it, but apparently there's quite a knack to it... ...

Turn the Smartie-Phone sideways (I assume) for better aspect ratio.. Depending which variety of smartiephone you have, there is an iphone app which automatically takes landscape video's & pictures, no matter which way up you hold the phone, or even at an angle. :D It is called "Horizon&quo...

Re: Quarry Hunslet

A bit of both Rik. I usually tell Chitubox to put them in automatically and then look at them and take out the ones that are nonsense and add a few more to be sure! I also check and edit if necessary to make sure that the support bases are clear of the model and that the verticals are clear of faces...
