Re: Filament of choice for printing wheels
That does look good Paul. It's kind of what I was trying to achieve with the silver silk, but this 'duller but still polished' effect is much better.

Re: Using SketchUp to produce drawings for 3-D Printing UPDATED WITH CHIMNEY FILLETS ADDED
Moving on... On the left, an extract from a prototype works photo, in the centre and extract from a Binnie drawing of the same loco, on the right a screenshot of a SketchUp drawing with flared chimney base. Screenshot 2024-10-04 15.23.17.png Still have to work out how to put a thickness to the botto...

Re: Using SketchUp to produce drawings for 3-D Printing UPDATED WITH CHIMNEY FILLETS ADDED
One of the most difficult things to do in many 3D CAD programs is to create the multiple smooth curves between the bottom of a vertical loco chimney and the larger diameter horizontal smokebox. Sketchup is no exception and I've always had to resort to a manual bodge to get something that doesn't loo...

It did seem a shame to cover all that nice polished metal, but the painted end result looks fabulous and really emphasises the chunkiness of those massive buffer beams.

Hi John and welcome. I can't help with your query, but regarding pictures, I'm afraid that new members are under a few restrictions until they have posted a number of times. Nothing personal but avoids some of the spam and bot joiners. :) Perhaps you'd like to put a post in the Introduction section ...

Speaking as one can't do weathering for toffee, I'd say that is pretty good for a first attempt, well done, Miles.
As for the copper, it will eventually naturally darken to a brownish colour, but be very careful not to get it wet and end up with greenish blue verdigris, which you do not want.

Hi Peter,
Welcome to the forum.
Sorry I can't help with your query, but just to let you know that I've moved this post from the How To section to this Technical Help where you are more likely to get an answer. The How To.. section is more for assistance with this forum itself.

Re: The Great Garden Railway Inspection Reports
Nice one, Drew. I must say that I was a bit surprised that he didn't pick up on the rather poorly looking "Moke"?? If you need a box to send him on to Scrat, I still have the stl's for the box I printed for the previous inspector, if you want them? How tall is your guy, he looks about the ...

Re: Transparent filament recommendation please
I can't help directly, the only transparent/translucent filament I've ever played with, quite a few years ago, was 'clear' which was OK for the glass in station lamps but didn't hide the layer lines. I've just done a quick look around out of curiosity and came across this one: https://www.mscdirect....

DECEMBER Gallery!!! Entries here please.
Seems crazy looking for entries for the December gallery, but that's where we are folks merryxmas. Rik has responded very quickly to my request for the theme, so here it is...." S " As he said "Given the popularity of this quarter's theme, how about, "Something beginning with S&q...

Thanks Grant.

Re: Garden Railway Gallery, Winners Thread
Well it was a fairly close vote between Rik and errrr.... Rik! So I officially declare Rik to be the winner this quarter, with his entry: Barclay 2-4-0T loco No. 2 BEESTON, brings bricks to Bulkeley Boneworks for a new bunker for the beam engine 5 - Barclay 2-4-0T loco No. 2 BEESTON, brings bricks t...

We have had this discussion a couple of times in the past, if you do a search. Personally, for Pla/PLA+ I use "Plasticweld" which is basically DiChloromethane and apply with a brush. Works perfectly.
