That does look excellent - very characterful.

Re: Varnished finish
Thanks all! Peter - I've ordered a small bottle of "button polish" which is a little lighter than french polish as I don't want to make the colour any darker, just a little warmer if possible. I'll do some experiments. I'm continuing on with the carriage, working in a similar way to how I ...

Re: Varnished finish
That's an interesting idea Keith. I've already progressed using Peter's suggestion but I might try the varnish as adhesive on a test piece. Thanks Peter, I've pressed on and have ordered some canopy glue. Here's where we are up to so far with the panelling just laid on for now. I've tried to get som...

Varnished finish
Greatings all, Term is over and I have a few days off before the students return. I've got an old brandbright carriage kit which came with cardboard panelling. Becuase I don't ever want to actually finish anything I decided to make my own paneling from LASERply. I re-designed the carriage to stratfo...

Re: Next overhaul project....
Wow! Brilliant to see you bringing it into service. I really love an overtype. For many years I was invovled at the Garratt Works Museum steaming Sirapite up and down a tiny bit of track - happy days.
Looking forward to the next up dates.

Only just catching up on this thread it is difficult to keep up with you! The garratt turned out very well. Perhaps one day we can put live steam and battery versions side by side!

Fantastic - a brilliant conversion, I wouldn't have spotted its origins if it wasn't in the title!

Re: DVLR No. 5, River Ore.
Thanks all - yes I'm terrifically pleased with the loco. I am still learning the loco, I was trying to be too mean with the gas on the first test - Rik has been very kind with his edit... Now to build a railway for it... Malcolm's reply on youtube: Hi everyone. A lovely bit of filming there. I am th...

Re: DVLR No. 5, River Ore.
Thanks all, First off - it has taken me a while to get the video of the test run uploaded. Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/embed/osrequFP0Qk?si=ZSrUqoqdL7l6-afc As to Looking forward to seeing it in action - any chance of getting back to Rik's line, it'd look great at the head of a lengthy goods...

Re: Infestation of box tree moth in north Suffolk
There is a bacteria that makes a protein which irritates the box moth's stomach lining (to the extent that they die). It also works with Cabbage whites - I've been using it on my purple sprouting broccoli plants. It is approved of for organic farming and doesn't build up in the food chain (the birds...

Re: DVLR No. 5, River Ore.
Thanks all, Malcolm did a lovely job of it and I don't think you'd immediately clock that it is slightly larger than his other baby garrats unless they were side by side. The dims are: 425l x 102w x 145h mm ish. I'm still working out where the works and name plates will go. I had a few good runs on ...

Re: Working hinges
It has been a while but the fish van has been gently progressing. The hinges use cut down 00 track pins for hinge pins which has worked well. Black on white is a little striking - are these zebra fish vans? A few nuts and bolts from Cambrian finish the look. It'll be weathered too but I think that t...

Re: DVLR No. 5, River Ore.
I do love that sketch, it looks so 'cute'. It has been a while since I scratch-built a locomotive, but that has me so tempted I might just 'borrow' your idea (if I may?) and produce an electric version. Go ahead, though it being based on the Morgan layout you may want his permission first - calling...

DVLR No. 5, River Ore.
My locomotive policy in 16mm has always been rather mean. I never paid more than £500 for a locomotive. I reasoned that as my 5" gauge loco had been secured for £1200 back around 2010 ish, that spending the same sort of money on 16mm would represent poorer value for money. As a quick reminder t...

Working hinges
Well, I didn't expect my first post on here for a while to be about 3D printing I must say. As a user of LASER cutting for the majority of my modelling over the years I've been something of a 3D printing skeptic (it always seemed to me to be a good way of producing a lot of landfill!) I welcomed LAS...

Re: In search of Carriage Brown
Cheers all and thank you so much GTB for the look through your tools of the trade. I'll keep an eye out for a bow pen to have a go with. I've never heard of a mapping pen before, that sounds ideal! The trick with the plasticard on the back of the ruler is also excellent - thanks I'll be sure to give...

In search of Carriage Brown
It has been a long held yearning of mine to align the, currently dorment, DVLR's carriage stock livery more closely with our the GER's. For DVLR's marks 1 and 2 the carriage livery was "Olive and Elm" which was, I think quite attractive and distinctive. It was originally intended to suit t...
